Swedish is the most common type of massage, as well as the basis for all western style massage techniques, with a focus on relaxation through intentionally long, gliding strokes. The application of pressure can be slow and gentle or powerful and intense, defined by the preference of the client.
Hot stones are applied to the body briefly in circular patterns to gently release tension and discomfort from tired and sore muscles. With the specific heat of the stones, deeper penetration into the muscle layers is achieved faster than would be with standard deep tissue massage.
Cupping therapy applies specific cups to the skin for a few minutes to create suction that reaches deep within the muscle layers to provide relief. This method can help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and general well-being. Athletes find an advantage for aggravated muscle tension, as cupping penetrates the muscles deeper than manual massage.
